Image
Hey there, let's take a deep dive into the fantastic world of French music during the 90s. As a French person, i’ve been listening to this type of music through my grand parents or parents. This was a time when the tunes were not just cool but part of a musical revolution that shaped the cultural landscape. In this extended journey, we'll explore the music of three iconic singers, including the legendary Johnny Hallyday. But before we talk about all of this , lest talk a bout the musical landscape.  The Musical Landscape of the 90s: A Fusion of Styles and Cultural Crossroads: The 90s marked a period of dynamic change in the global music scene, and France was no exception. This decade witnessed the collision of various musical genres, the rise of alternative rock, the emergence of electronic and techno influences, and the increasing prominence of world music. As the world transitioned into the digital age, the music industry underwent a paradigm shift, impacting how music was pr...

Harmonies Through Time: A Musical Journey with Grandma Lucille

Image
Introduction: In the final installment of our "Music &" blog series, we embark on a deeply personal exploration of the connection between music and family. The heartbeat of culture often begins within the walls of our homes, echoing through generations. For this special edition, I had the privilege of delving into the musical memories of my grandmother, Lucille McElrath. A charming tale unfolded as she recounted her experiences with music, taking us from the melodies of her youth to the tunes that resonate with her today. I decided to present the interview as a dialogue, capturing the essence of our conversation. Me: Grandma, tell me about the music that filled your childhood. Grandma Lucille: Oh, honey, it was a different time back then. I remember gathering around the radio with my family, listening to the sweet tunes of Lawrence Welk. He had such a great show, and his music made us feel like dancing on air. Those were simple, joyous times. Me: Lawrence Welk? What ...

My Hip Hop journey throughout the years

Image
Hi, today I'm gonna introduce you to my favorite music genre, HIP HOP. I've been introduced to hip hop when I was very young, I would say around 10 years old when my dad was listening to a French rap brand of the 90s "NTM", not very long after he bought me my first rap album, a French band named "Sexion d'assault". Sexion d'assault is a French rap band created in 2002 made of seven members, all from Paris suburb: Gims, Barack Adama, Left, Maska, Doomas, JR O Crom and Black M. Their first album was released in 2010 and was called " L'école des points vitaux". Their first huge success was with the album "l'apogée" ( the peak in English) composed of 3 songs that who have exceeded 30 Millions streams on Spotify, they sold more than 150 000 DVD, which is very good for a non digital album. This album had so much success that won two "NJR Music Awards" for the best French speaking group of the year, and the best album o...

Music and gender

Image
Music and gender have long been intertwined, reflecting and perpetuating societal norms and stereotypes. In the realm of rap, a genre historically dominated by male artists, the contrast between men and women in the industry is striking. While both male and female rappers share the common ground of lyrical expression and storytelling, disparities arise in their experiences and representation. Men often face fewer barriers when entering the rap scene, benefiting from a more established infrastructure, and may receive recognition more readily. Women in rap, on the other hand, encounter gender biases and objectification, requiring extra resilience to break through. However, the similarities are evident in their shared struggles for authenticity, battling stereotypes, and addressing issues such as social inequality and identity. Ultimately, the rap genre provides a platform for artists of all genders to voice their experiences, challenge norms, and contribute to a richer, more diverse musi...

Marty's music blog

I'm French, so today I'm going to show you what music we listen to at French weddings. I will speak for myself, I have been in French and Christian marriages. The atmosphere is a festive atmosphere so we have to listen to lively music that makes you dance but also emotion, because a wedding is a party but a party full of emotions.  The first song  I'm going to talk about is the emotional song, the one we listen when the married just say yes to each other, a very emotional moment for everyone so we listen to this song named “ I love her to death” By Francis Cabrel, a  popular French singer from the 90s. This song shows to the groom or the bride how much they love each other. I personally  love this song because this song has gone through a lot of generations and no matter the year you were born everyone knows this song. Everyone can sing the song and enjoy the time that’s why this is the perfect song at this time.  https://youtu.be/bMZVtFCU0ZQ The second s...
